Hardwood floor in a Cape Fear region home

Hardwood Flooring Areas Served | Wilmington, The Beaches & Brunswick County

Wilmington NC Hardwood Flooring covers New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, and in 15 years on this coast we have learned that the county you are in changes the job. We provide hardwood floor installation, dustless sanding and refinishing, screen and recoat, board replacement and structural repair, subfloor repair and levelling, water damage restoration, historic heart pine restoration and pattern flooring throughout the region, from the historic district out to the barrier islands and west of the river into Brunswick County.

Our crews work on four quite different kinds of house here: heart pine over brick piers downtown, oak strip over enclosed crawl spaces through the post-war middle, elevated piling construction at Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Oak Island, and slab on grade through Leland, Belville and Brunswick Forest. Each fails in its own way, so we quote each differently. There is no travel charge within roughly thirty miles of Wilmington.

Hardwood Flooring Across New Hanover, Brunswick And Pender Counties

Wilmington NC Hardwood Flooring covers the Cape Fear region from the historic district out to the barrier islands, west of the river into Brunswick County and north into Pender. We provide hardwood floor installation, dustless sanding and refinishing, screen and recoat, board replacement and structural repair, subfloor repair and levelling, water damage restoration, historic heart pine restoration and pattern flooring throughout.

The reason it matters which town you are in is that the houses are genuinely different, and so is the work. Four building types account for nearly everything we see here, and each one fails in its own way.

Four Kinds Of House, Four Different Jobs

Pre-war, brick pier crawl space

Downtown Wilmington, Carolina Place, Carolina Heights, Sunset Park, Southport, Burgaw. Heart pine, often several sandings down, over crawl spaces that frequently have no vapour barrier at all.

Post-war to 1990s, enclosed crawl space

Midtown Wilmington, Ogden, Murrayville, Castle Hayne, Hampstead, Wallace. Oak strip, usually. Cupping from crawl space humidity is the single commonest call we take.

Elevated piling or pier

Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Oak Island, Figure Eight Island. The underside of the floor is effectively outdoors, and houses sit empty with the HVAC off.

Slab on grade, post-2000

Leland, Belville, Navassa, Brunswick Forest, Compass Pointe, River Lights. No crawl space, so vapour comes up through the slab instead. Engineered territory.

Towns We Cover

These seven have their own pages because the housing stock genuinely differs between them. We also work in Ogden, Murrayville, Castle Hayne, Porters Neck, Middle Sound, Myrtle Grove and the Monkey Junction area, Landfall, Figure Eight Island, Kure Beach, Masonboro, Belville, Navassa, Bolivia, Winnabow, St James, Caswell Beach, Burgaw, Wallace, Rocky Point, Topsail and Surf City.

There is no travel charge inside roughly thirty miles of Wilmington, which covers almost all of the above. Beyond that we quote travel separately and tell you before the visit rather than after. Figure Eight Island needs bridge access arranged in advance by the homeowner, because the causeway is private and guarded.

Scheduling Around The Seasons

The beach towns hold most of the region's seasonal housing, which concentrates rental-property work into the shoulder seasons. Late autumn and early spring are the busiest weeks at Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Oak Island, and the quietest in year-round neighbourhoods like Forest Hills, Ogden and Brunswick Forest.

If you live in Wilmington or Leland and can take a slot in May or October, lead times are shorter and so is the wait for a start date. Repairs and recoats are usually available within the same week year-round, and water damage is treated as urgent whatever the season.

How Far We Travel, And What It Costs

We would rather be straight about this than have it appear on an invoice. Travel is free inside roughly thirty miles of Wilmington, which covers almost everything we do, and where it is not free we say so before the visit rather than after.

No travel charge
All of New Hanover County, the eastern half of Brunswick through Leland, Belville, Navassa, Winnabow, Bolivia, Southport, St James, Oak Island and Caswell Beach, and southern Pender through Hampstead, Scotts Hill, Topsail and Surf City.
Quoted separately, agreed first
Northern Pender through Burgaw, Rocky Point, Atkinson and Wallace, western Brunswick towards Shallotte and Supply, and Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge in Onslow County. Usually modest, always stated in writing before anyone drives anywhere.
Special access
Figure Eight Island needs the homeowner to arrange bridge access in advance. Bald Head Island is ferry and tram only, so material handling is a real cost and we price it as its own line.
Outside the three counties
We will tell you honestly rather than take the work. A flooring contractor who cannot come back in August to look at a cupped board is not much use to you, and that is the test we apply.

Why We Stay Inside Three Counties

We get asked fairly often whether we would come to Jacksonville, Myrtle Beach or Fayetteville, and the answer is no. It is not a capacity problem. It is that a wood floor on this coast is a relationship with a building over years, not a transaction that ends when the finish cures.

The floors we lay get metered again. A customer calls in August because a board has moved, and the useful thing we can do is drive out, take a reading and compare it against the number we wrote down at survey eighteen months earlier. That is only possible inside a radius we can actually serve, and it is the single biggest reason our customers call us back rather than somebody else.

It also means we know the housing. We can tell you what is likely under a 1952 floor in Sunset Park, what a Brunswick Forest slab usually reads, and why a sound-side house at Wrightsville behaves differently from one on the ocean. That knowledge is local by definition. Spread the same crew across four hundred miles of coast and it stops being worth anything.

Service Area Questions

Do you charge for travel?

Not within about thirty miles of Wilmington, which covers almost all of New Hanover, the eastern half of Brunswick and southern Pender. Further out we quote it separately and say so beforehand.

Can you work on a rental between guests?

Often, and it is most of what we do at the beaches. A screen and recoat fits a changeover window. A full sand and finish does not, and pretending otherwise ends with a guest walking on uncured finish.

Do you work in gated communities?

Yes. Landfall, Figure Eight Island, Brunswick Forest, Compass Pointe and St James. Figure Eight needs the homeowner to arrange bridge access in advance.

My town is not listed. Do you come out?

Ask. If you are in these three counties the answer is almost certainly yes, and if you are outside them we will tell you straight rather than drive two hours to quote a job we cannot service properly.

Which areas are busiest when?

Beach towns in late autumn and early spring, because rental work concentrates in the shoulder seasons. Year-round neighbourhoods are quietest then, so May and October are good months to book in Wilmington or Leland.

Not sure which category your house is?

Tell us the town and roughly when it was built and we can usually say over the phone.
